Whitmer Issues Call For Continued Caution Against COVID

Governor Gretchen Whitmer is urging Michiganders to continue masking up after a state Supreme Court ruling against her emergency orders. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday issued a new mask order, and then Whitmer took to social media to remind everyone it’s still important to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“for the past seven months I’ve been making the tough decisions that took us from the state with the third highest cases of COVID-19 per million in March and April to the 33rd highest in September,” Whitmer said. “We have one of the best economic recoveries in the nation, too. Studies have concluded we’ve saved thousands of lives”

Whitmer said as a result of the court’s decision, Michigan will likely see cases of COVID go up. She also said the ruling does not mean her emergency orders to fight the pandemic violated the law. Rather, she said it means the court held the state’s 1945 emergency powers law is unconstitutional.
