Michigan’s Gary Peters will be the chair of the US Senate Homeland Security Committee. The second-term Democrat will oversee legislation and government response to matters including domestic terrorism.
“We’re going to make sure we have data that’s actually we know what we’re dealing with, have a better sense of how we can employ intelligence assets to track domestic violent groups and their plans to create mayhem or to engage in some sort of violence attempt,” says Peters.
Peters says the attempted plot to kidnap Governor Whitmer and last month’s insurrection at the US Capitol are two major examples.
