They are accused of illegally collecting some of their petition signatures for their effort to repeal the 1945 Emergency Powers of the Governor Act. The AG’s office has had complaints Unlock Michigan circulators told them they were gathering signatures to support LGBTQ rights, for medical marijuana initiatives or to help small businesses, among other things. At least one official was caught on a recording training circulators to use deceptive and potentially illegal tactics to gain signatures for the ballot initiative. Any potential charges that may be filed against Unlock Michigan and its members will depend on whether criminal activity took place and the evidence compiled by the Attorney General’s office in its investigation.
