Two Shot as Gunfire Erupts at Benton Harbor Nightclub

Signs all over the front door and windows make it clear that firearms are not allowed inside Smokes Lounge on N. Fair Avenue in Benton Harbor, but not everybody plays by the rules as the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety re-discovered first hand early this morning.

Deputy Director Michael Clark says his department was called out at 2:20am this morning, Monday, October 26th, to the popular lounge at 250 N. Fair Avenue on a report of shots fired there. He says that upon arrival his officers “located a crime scene where two males had been injured by gunfire.”

The two men who had been shot were taken to Spectrum Health Lakeland in St. Joseph for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Clark says authorities do not know who opened fire at Smokes Lounge or why they  did, and his department is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about it to please contact the Tipline at 269-927-0293 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-342-STOP (7867) or provide information anonymously via the TIP411 app in the app store. Search the app store by entering Benton Harbor DPS.

The Benton Harbor Department of Public Service was assisted on the scene of the shooting by the Michigan State Police and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
