Southwestern Michigan College is giving commemorative COVID coins to its staff as a thank you for helping during the pandemic. SMC held its annual employee recognition program on September 25 via Zoom with 95 people logged in to hear from President Joe Odenwald. He announced with SMC staff now veterans of the COVID-19 pandemic and rising to the occasion, the commemorative coins would be pocket-size medallions given to service members as a gesture of camaraderie. Each coin is individually numbered, and Odenwald said they will forever connect “the work, sacrifices and ingenuity that have gone into keeping this college operational during this major event in the history of the country.” Also during the meeting, years of service were recognized in five-year increments for staff members.
