Unemployment continues to get smaller in southwest Michigan. Kinexus Group chief operating officer Jake Gustafson says Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties together are at 7.3% unemployment, down 1.1% from August.
“Our sub-8% is a great result for this past month and actually beat our expectations a little bit because we were concerned about some seasonal things in the fall, regardless of COVID,” said Gustafson.
He says the rates are better than the rest of the state by about 1%. The labor force has grown a little more than a half-percent in the past year, and that reflects continued worker engagement with the job market.
