James C McQueen

Jim’s life began October 2, 1935, in Portageville, MO.  When Jim was around 10 years old his dad was offered a job in Southwest Michigan and they made their home in Coloma.  His dad bought acreage and Jim enjoyed helping his parents farm the property.  Jim graduated from Coloma High School and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.  After serving his country Jim returned to Coloma and completed school to become an electrician and eventually went to work at Kaywood Corp where he met Mary English and shortly after they married.  Jim finished his career retiring from Consumers Energy.  In Jim’s spare time he enjoyed singing and listening to country music, watching football especially Notre Dame and University of Michigan, sharing stories about his experiences from the service when he was overseas.  Jim loved to box and play horse shoes and earned many trophies and recognitions for both including Golden Gloves.  Jim also enjoyed snowmobiling and was a member of the Blizzard Brigade Snowmobile Club.

Jim’s greatest joy was his family which includes: his loving wife Mary McQueen; four children Bob (Kim) McQueen, Debbie (Mark) Amis, David (Victoria) Gould, and Jeff Gould; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters Aline Moore and Shelby (Stephen) Kelbel; a brother-in-law Gene Tutton; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim died Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.  His parents Leo and Ruby (Yarbrough) McQueen, two sisters Joyce Tutton and Jerry Rothaar, and two brothers-in-law Jim Rothaar and Jim Moore precede Jim in death.  Funeral services will be celebrated Friday, October 2, 2020 at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet at 2:45 PM with visitation prior starting at 1:00 PM.  Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens.  You are invited to leave a message of comfort for Jim’s family at hutchinsfuneral.com
