Glen Mathewson

Glen Mathewson, 88, of Buchanan, MI, passed away at home on October, 2, 2020, with his loved ones.

Glen was born May 3, 1932 in Benton Harbor to LeRoy & Naomi Mathewson, who preceded him in death, along with son Gregory Mathewson and brothers, LeMoine & Robert Mathewson.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Mathewson, son, Steve (Gloria) Mathewson, daughters; Linda (Bruce) Warren, Stephanie (Marc) Carlson and step-daughters; Debbie Bell, Kellie (Tim) Tyler and Becky (Mike) Miller and 16 grandkids and numerous great grandkids.

Glen served his country in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954. On December 28, 1980, he married his High School Sweetheart, Nancy Butgeriet. Glen & Nancy moved to Oklahoma where he retired from Hertz Corporation in 1994 and moved back to Michigan to be with their family.

Glen had a passion for knowledge, graduating from LMC, Western Michigan University and University of Oklahoma. His service in the Navy only enhanced his love for flying, as he went on to build his own KR2 over his retirement years. As a member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), he always looked forward to a pancake breakfast, as well as fly ins at Osh Kosh, WI with his brother Robert. Glens love for the outdoors was only surpassed by his writing and gardening. One of his daily rituals was to enjoy a “Kowalski”, so here’s to his last “Kowalski”, may you rest in peace, God speed!

Purely Cremations is handling cremation and the family asks that contributions be made to Caring Circle, Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Ln., St. Joseph.
