George W. Whaling

George W. Whaling, 83, of St. Joseph died of Covid 19, Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph. 

Services celebrating his life will be held at Noon on Monday, November 2, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Township with Rev. Kirby Phillips, Sr of the Unity Bible Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Crystal Springs Cemetery. George was born on Sept 7, 1937 in Benton Harbor to Walter Sr. and Flossie Whaling. He was a graduate of the Benton Harbor High School. He was employed at the Fisher Body Plant in Kalamazoo from 1966 to 1993 when he retired. George was a member of the Unity Bible Baptist Church in Benton Harbor where he served as church clerk, superintendent of Sunday Schools, and on the finance committee. In 2001 he married his wife, Sheila, and together they have celebrated 19 years of marriage. George enjoyed the outdoors and sightseeing nature. He was loving and good husband to his wife, Sheila. 

His family includes his wife, Sheila, his sister, Joan Murphy of Stevensville, his sister-in-law Pat Whaling of Kalamazoo, sister-in-law Carolyn (Howard) Carpenter of Kalamazoo, brother-in-law Reverend Kirby (Carolyn) Phillips of Benton Harbor, and brother-in-law Gentry (Rosalyn) Phillips Sr. of Benton Harbor, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
