The tradition launched several years ago by Celebration Cinema of hosting top notch films regarding the life and times of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in honor of MLK Day continues next week.

In Honor Of MLK Day, Celebration Cinema is happy to present two critically acclaimed films recognizing leaders in the civil rights movement and the tensions, questions, and adversity they faced as they sought to use their voice and power to create change.

One Night in Miami is the start of director Regina King’s unique approach to fictionalizing slices of the 1960s Black Power movement. Focused on a historic hotel room meeting between Ali, Malcolm X, the King of Soul Sam Cooke (Odom Jr.), and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Brown (Hodge), One Night in Miami takes the political and makes it personal.

MLK/FBI presents a sobering overview of the American intelligence community’s efforts to discredit and destroy a leader of the civil rights movement. In crafting a rich archival tapestry, featuring restored footage of Martin Luther King, film director Samuel Pollard urges us to remember that true American progress is always hard-won.

One Night in Miami is playing wide at all Celebration Cinema theatres. MLK/FBI is a limited release, playing exclusively at Studio Park. Tickets can be secured on the Celebration Cinema website.

Celebration Cinema will contribute $1.00 from each ticket (to a cap of $1,000) sold over MLK weekend (Jan 15th – Jan 18th) to The Center for Community Transformation. Additionally, Celebration Cinema welcomes you to join an ONLINE movie conversation hosted by Julian S. Newman, Founder and CEO of Culture Creative, for each of these thought-provoking movies.
