Berrien County Names Dispatcher Of The Year

Berrien County’s 911 Telecommunicator of the Year is Melissa Hensley. During a meeting of the Berrien County Board of Commissioners this week, Hensley received the honor with the 911 Advisory Board’s Jack Fisher saying she helped save a life by staying calm during a high-pressure call.

“On December 12, 2019, when she took a call about a vehicle that rolled over into a ditch with water coming into the truck at Date and Linco, she did a really good job of keeping the caller calm as he was trapped and water was coming in.”

Fisher said Hensley was able to get all of the information needed to save the driver. He also commended her for being a multi-tasker. Also recognized this week was nominee Berrien County Supervisor Sarah Blurton for her leadership and training efforts within the Dispatch Center, and her active role in improving operations.
