Benton Harbor High School Graduate Named Boys And Girls Club Regional Youth of the Year

Benton Harbor’s Tékeidra Masters is the Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s 2020 Midwest Regional Youth of the Year. The Boys and Girls Club of Benton Harbor tells us she’s a freshman at Valparaiso University in Indiana, majoring in Biology with plans to become a neurosurgeon. The Boys and Girls Club says the Youth of the Year is an honor given to a young person in recognition of their leadership, service, academic excellence, and dedication to a healthy lifestyle. Masters is the first in her family to attend college, and she credits Be There, the social and emotional development program at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Benton Harbor, for helping change her life. She says it helped her to develop confidence and be able to express herself. As the Midwest Regional Youth of the Year, Masters will serve as an ambassador for teens in the region, get a $20,000 scholarship, and go on to contend for the national Youth of the Year title on October 6. That honor comes with a $50,000 scholarship.
